The Dance

Written: January 9, 2011
I’m not really sure what made me write this, what feelings evoked these words but, it’s a story. The story of probably most girls in the world, a little girl watches a ball and thinks of her ‘Prince Charming’; ten years later she’s still waiting, the party is gone but there still remains a restlessness in her heart; another year and she can dance but she’s still waiting for her prince.  Then a year or two passes and again she finds herself dancing, and tonight Prince Charming appears. After one year it’s her wedding day and she leaves childhood behind as she walks down the aisle and pledges her love to her prince.

In a room of brilliant colors
she lingers by the door
watching the ladies dance
and wonders, when will she?

Ten years later, the room is quiet
the colors have disappeared
yet she stays in a corner
waiting for her prince.

Another year and music is playing
this time, she dances too,
as she twirls and spins
she wonders if he’ll come tonight.

A year or two has passed
and she twirls again in glee
then a gloved hand is extended to her
she accepts with dignity.

After a year has flown by
she smiles, dressed in white,
gives her hand to her father,
and walks down the aisle.

She is an angel of beauty
and pledges forever to love
this man with whom she stands
her prince, her one true love.
