A Voice

I feel the need-
The need to write.
To write and let my thoughts be free.
Write of my sorrows, and write of my cares-
And let my voice be heard.
We each have a voice,
We all have a choice-
Silence or speak out.
Afraid of what others may think
Hesitant to stand alone-
Just remember
One voice becomes a thousand
And a whisper becomes a shout.

I Look to You

When my eyes are full of tears, and my heart filled with sorrow
I turn to you, my God and let myself rest in your almighty comfort.

When I have no strength to go on; no words to express my pain
I get on my knees, and You strengthen me and heal my broken heart.

When I am unsure, of myself, of the future
I read in Your Word, and I know that You are forever in control.

When those around me hurt me, intentionally or not
I learn to forgive, as You have forgiven me and I learn to love as You do.

When I wonder and question You,
I look at the beauty surrounding me, and remind myself of Your plans for me.

When I cry, am weak, unsure, hurt, and when I wonder why,
                             I look to You

Death's Love Song

Here I sleep in silence
My bones laid down to rest
In the ground,
‘neath the limbs of a willow that weeps.

A gray stone marks my place
And roses are left by friends.
Their tears make the flowers grow
And their love fills the air.

Don’t cry for me, my loves
For angels have carried me
To rest in the arms of my Savior
And sing praises to his name.

Forever-Class of 2012

We thought we had forever
But forever has an end
Now we’ll go our separate ways
And I hope we’ll meet again
But until that day
God bless and keep you safe
Our memories remain
Wrapped in blue and gold
An eagle perched in glory

Magic in the Barn

There’s something therapeutic about waking up early,
Just as the sun is opening its eyes,
And heading for the barn.
Because there’s magic in the barn.

The world is waking up,
And the smells of dirt, hay, and leather surround you.
Dust gets in your eyes and you’re starting to sweat-
But there’s magic in the barn.

Your horse is your buddy, best friend, and secret keeper;
Some people will never understand your bond
And others know that there is nothing else like it.
There’s magic in the barn.

A relaxing ride-and sometimes a clash of wills-
As you take in nature’s song.
After it’s over and you’re back inside, you smile and know
There’s magic in the barn.

On Fathers’ Day

Can I simply say thank-you?
I could, but thank-you isn’t enough.
Can I list out why I’m thankful for you?
Thank-you for your hugs,
Thank-you for your prayers,
Thank-you for killing the bugs,
And let’s not forget the many nights you carried me up the stairs to bed.
(Some nights I was asleep, some nights I would just hope you didn’t realize I was still awake, some nights I didn’t feel well, and some nights I just wanted reassurance of your love)
And those times you still carry me; physically in your arms, and spiritually in your prayers.
Yes, I could say thank-you for everything, but that would take a while
But what am I thankful for, most of all?
Thank-you for loving my mom,
Thank-you for taking time to be a Dad,
Thank-you for striving to be the person God wants you to be,
And an example others can follow.
I love you, Daddy <3
